A large hole around a catch basin in Bath Beach is slowly expanding, according to concerned neighbors.
The hole is located on the corner of Bath and 16th avenues on a heavily trafficked crosswalk. It's roughly 2 feet wide and 4 feet deep.
Neighbors say the asphalt around the hole continues to crumble. Neighbor Billy Ryba put an orange cone in the hole to protect people from falling.
Ryba told News 12 that he noticed the hole about a month ago and called 311 several times to complain about it. He says they told him to file a complaint with the Department of Environmental Protection. Ryba says he called the DEP but received no reply.
News 12 reached out to the DEP. A spokesperson said crews will head to the location to find the cause of the crumbling catch basin and then schedule repairs.
