New apartment complex in Prospect Heights provides new features for its tenants and nearby neighbors

The new complex has outdoor features on certain floors that include pools and lawn chairs. The complex's construction also included green spaces outside on the lower level. Each side has different features such sprinklers that shoot out water on hot days and a dog park.

595 Dean Street in Prospect Heights is home to two new apartment buildings that have 798 new apartments combined. After about four years of construction, the west building opened in May and the east building opened last month.

"New York is facing a housing crisis and there is not enough supply of rental housing," Amir Stein said. "We looked at this as an opportunity to build a large-scale dense multifamily rental."

Stein is the director of Aquisition for TF Cornerstone, the company behind the complex's construction. He said apartments are still up for rent.

Approximately 240 of the units are for affordable housing, though the lottery for those units has closed.

"It's really special to be able to design something in your head and actually bring it to fruition," Stein said.

Each building has outdoor features on certain floors that include pools and lawn chairs. The complex's construction also included green spaces outside on the lower level. Each side has different features such sprinklers that shoot out water on hot days and a dog park. There is also a playground that Jesse Newman and Janice Chow's children enjoyed playing on.

"We come by frequently," Newman said, as he supervised his daughter playing on the playground equipment. "This is her climbing a ladder for the first time. It's really exciting and she just likes to run around try everything a little bit."

The open spaces are open to everyone. Stein said his company is now focused on building its next complex in Long Island City.
