A new pedestrian plaza could be coming to DUMBO. A public hearing was held last night about the proposed closing off of traffic along Anchorage Place between Plymouth and Pearl streets. This would make a unified plaza space, enabling pedestrians to travel more safely. The proposed plan comes from the DUMBO's Business Improvement District and the Department of Transportation. The plan includes the removal of nearly two dozen parking spaces. However, the bid promises neighbors that some reconfiguration of parking rules could replace many of the lost spots. If the plan is implemented, the plaza could be opened as soon as this summer and would include a means for allowing emergency vehicles to travel through the plaza.
