In an effort to stop the spread of COVID, children ages 5 to 11 started to roll up their sleeves for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccination last week. Now, Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced new pop-up vaccination sites to increase vaccination rates among school-aged New Yorkers. 

Christ Fellowship Baptist Church is one of 14 Vax To School pop-up sites that will open on Saturday. 

This is part of an ongoing effort from the state that looks to create a greater accessibility for young New Yorkers to get the shot. 

Starting Saturday, kids as young as 12 years old can get vaccinated between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccine. 

This past September, the governor announced a total of 120 clinics that would take place over a 12-week period statewide. To date, she says that the state has surpassed its goal with 165 clinics.

The Brooklyn Children’s Museum has been another access point for children to get the shot, as it became one of the first sites in NYC to offer the vaccine to kids. 

According to the mayor’s office, 51,000 kids ages 5 to 11 in the city have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and nearly 17,000 of those shots were administered at city schools.
