American Legion Post 8 commemorated the end of the Vietnam War at a special event they held at New Rochelle's City Hall on Saturday.
The event was held just one day after National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The holiday commemorates the last day that U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam in 1973.
To mark the occasion, veterans presented the colors and read the names of New Rochelle residents who were killed in action.
It was a measure that Dennis Starr, the commander of the post, thought was important.
"We have a lot of members in our post that are Vietnam veterans, and we feel it's important to remember those who sacrificed during the war," Starr said.
Over 58,000 servicemembers lost their lives during the war, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
