The Department of Transportation is continuing to improve biker safety in Brooklyn by adding pedestrian and bike signals.
The latest improvement comes in the form of a new signal at the Manhattan Bridge off-ramp in DUMBO by Jay Street.
The signal, which is designed to discourage unsafe crossing maneuvers, is the latest push from the city's Vision Zero road traffic safety project.
According to the NYPD's latest statistics, there were nearly 2,000 bicyclist injuries in Brooklyn in 2015, a number the DOT hopes to reduce.
Bikers say they greatly appreciate that the DOT is providing help to make pedestrians and oncoming traffic aware of the off-ramp, and say it is also important for everyone to be aware of their surroundings.
