Mayor Eric Adams and School Chancellor David Banks on Wednesday announced that 24 new school buildings are officially open around the five boroughs.
These additional buildings are providing over 11,000 new seats for city students, starting this school year.
This announcement also made history as the largest number of new K-12 city public school seat openings in a single year since 2003.
Adams says that opening these new facilities brings the city closer to permanently closing "outdated trailer classrooms" and enhancing the learning experience.
The city’s new adopted capital plan aims to continue the work by providing over 33,000 additional seats for students by 2029.
