Help for tenants:
• Tenant Helpline: The Tenant Helpline is staffed by trained specialists who work with tenants one-on-one to meet their individual needs—providing information, resource navigation, and referrals. We encourage tenants to Call 311 and ask for the Tenant Helpline!
• Right to Counsel: Tenants navigating eviction have the right to free legal counsel, and those who leverage this program have a high success rate of staying in their home (84% pre-COVID) Call 311, and ask for the Tenant Helpline!
• HPD/DOB Complaints: HPD/ DOB take tenant safety seriously. Call 311 to report issues like: mold, pests, lack of heat/ gas/ electricity, structural concerns, and more. The City will send someone to assist you.
• Source of Income: Discrimination against potential tenants with vouchers (including CityFHEPS) is illegal in NYC and will not be tolerated. In December 2021, the City put $2M for outreach/ prevention plus 19 headcount to CCHR’s Source of Income unit.
