News 12 sat down with the family of Eric Garner to discuss how they're coping with the grand jury decision that caused the city to erupt in protests last week.
Garner's mother, Gwen Carr, says the family is saddened and disheartened by the failed indictment of NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who put the Staten Island dad in an apparent chokehold.
The family added that they're thankful for the support of peaceful demonstrators and vowed to keep fighting for justice because they don't want Garner's death to be in vain.
Carr will also be featured in an upcoming documentary called "Our Mothers Voices." The film focuses on moms who have lost their children to violence at the hands of police. Filmmaker Jeffery Morton says the documentary would not be complete without the Garner family.
Garner's family hopes the film and the protests will bring about real change, so that no other family has to experience what they are going through.
