New York City has begun accepting applications for the summer youth employment lottery.
The program gives summer jobs to teens in places such as police precincts, hospitals and retail stores.
Competition for the positions is stiff. Last year, more than 50,000 Brooklyn teens applied for positions. This year, there are only about 9,000 positions available.
Teens have until May 18 to apply before the lottery starts.
