Tenants in NYCHA’s Carey Garden Houses in Coney Island say they have been without gas for nearly three months.
The gas service interruption is affecting 18 apartments, and the tenants are calling on NYCHA to fix the problem that they say started at the end of June.

NYCHA gave the tenants a single hot plate to use for cooking, but some tenants say the hot plates are hard to cook on and break easily so they are forced to eat out, which is an added expense.

A spokesperson for NYCHA says restoring the gas service involves multiple partners and steps and is a matter of public safety.

NYCHA released a statement saying, "While we understand gas service interruptions are inconvenient, we also want to ensure our residents' safety as we work to restore service as quickly as possible."

A NYCHA representative added that staff is currently scheduling to replace the affected gas risers.
