The NYPD says two men were arrested in connection to a rape that happened on Sunday night in Coney Island.
David Davon Bonilla, 24, and 37-year-old Leovando Morena were arrested after police say they attacked a 46-year-old woman at 1904 Surf Ave. The NYPD says the suspects pushed the woman to the ground, displayed a knife and forcibly raped her.
Davon Bonilla faces a slew of charges, including rape, assault, sex abuse and criminal possession of a weapon. Morena has been charged with assault and has been listed as homeless.
Police add a 34-year-old man intervened in the attack but was struck in the head by Morena.
Brooklyn residents told News 12 they want to see an increased police presence in the area.
“I feel that there should be more police officers here around," said Tony Acevedo, of Coney Island. "I think people would feel more safe and I’ve been here all my life. I feel bad and terrible to hear something like that happen.”
Other female residents say they don't feel safe walking along the boardwalk alone.
"You have to always be in a group, like never by yourself, always have women with you or family members with you," said Charlene Fountaliotis, of Marine Park. "I tell my daughters don't ever walk by yourself."
As of Monday evening, police do not have a clear answer if there is a connection between the suspects and the victim.
