The NYPD is stepping up security at places of worship across the city following the deadly shooting this weekend at a synagogue in California.
Police cars were seen Sunday outside of a synagogue on Eastern Parkway.
California authorities say a 19-year-old gunman opened fire Saturday at Chabad of Poway, outside of San Diego. There were about 100 people inside at the time. A 60-year-old woman was killed, and a rabbi and two others were injured, including a child.
The rabbi, Yisroel Goldstein, had moved from Brooklyn to California when he was in his 20s, according to his family. He was giving a sermon at the synagogue when the shooting happened.
Rabbi Goldstein is expected to be OK. Despite the tragedy, he is asking people in the Jewish community not to give up on their faith.
