Police on Wednesday arrested the third suspect in connection with a drug sting and police-involved shooting in Bushwick earlier in the week.
Earlier in the day, the NYPD released the name of a narcotics officer shot by a fellow officer during the so-called buy-and-bust investigation. Investigators also identified the other two people in custody in relation to the incident.
Officials say Detective Jon Gladstone was inadvertently shot by a police sergeant as the two tried to arrest Oscar Vera and Geraldo Rodriguez at Troutman Street and Wilson Avenue in Bushwick Tuesday.
The officers shot Vera in the leg and wrist after he allegedly tried to speed away as Gladstone reached into the vehicle. Vera was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is in stable condition. He is facing multiple charges including assaulting a police officer and criminal possession and sale of drugs.
Gladstone was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with a bullet wound in the shoulder. Officials say he is recovering, alert and in good spirits.
Both suspects have extensive criminal histories with multiple drug-related charges, according to police.
Police say a third person fled the scene and was at large until late Wednesday. Narcotics officers witnessed the three men conduct a suspected heroin deal, according to investigators.
It's unclear what, if any, charges the remaining two men in custody will face.
