The NYPD says an officer is expected to make a full recovery after he was struck by a deflected bullet while resting between shifts in a Harlem parking lot Saturday.
Police say the officer woke up and had pain in his head. When he left the vehicle, an on-duty sergeant noticed he was bleeding, administered aid and called an ambulance.
The officer underwent surgery and was determined to have a fractured skull.
Police say the bullet was deflected by something, otherwise the injury could have been more serious.
