A man is now in custody after allegedly shooting a police officer with a pellet gun in Concourse Village.
Detectives say it happened Thursday night on the corner of 265 East 161st Street.
They say a gray van approached a police officer from which the suspect stuck his head out and called him a pig.
He then allegedly pointed the BB gun and shot him.
The pellet grazed the police officer's left cheek.
Authorities say the pellet gun was not filled with traditional pellets, but rather small gel water balls called Orbeez.
Police said they arrested the suspect, who was walked out of the 44th precinct and booked into jail Saturday.
This incident is part of a country-wide trend involving Orbeez pellet guns.
Videos featuring the guns have gone viral on TikTok. Some of the videos depict people purposefully shooting at law enforcement.
Some models of the weapon are available online for prices as low as 50 dollars.
The NYPD has seized several of these bead blasters across all boroughs. They say owning one of them is a violation.
