A 26-year-old man is in critical condition after police say he was shot once in the back Sunday evening in Castle Hill.
Police said it happened just before 6 p.m. on Seward Avenue between Pugsley and Olmstead avenues.
A News 12 camera captured two evidence markers on scene: one on the sidewalk near a winter jacket, and the other on top of a parked van.
Investigators went door to door to interview potential witnesses.
One woman asked not to be identified but told News 12 that she heard first responders racing to the scene. That’s when she ran out of her nearby apartment building.
“They were giving him chest compressions, and they put him on a stretcher,” the woman said. “They were saying, 'hopefully he makes it' because it wasn’t looking good.”
Police said they’re searching for three men wearing all black and one woman wearing all gray.
Police ask anyone with any information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
