Police are searching for a masked man who robbed a Mott Haven deli with a gun in broad daylight on Monday.
According to the NYPD, the armed suspect stole around $500. Exclusive surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows the suspect point the gun at the cashier of the Gourmet Deli on Willis Avenue. He is then seen hopping over the counter and apparently stealing from the cash register.
Bashir, cashier at the deli, says that when the suspect first came in at around 12:30 p.m., he first asked for weed. When Bashir told him they did not have it, the suspect revealed his gun.
“I was scared - I had never seen a gun like that,” said Bashir, the cashier. “I am probably thinking of going upstate or something because it is safer."
The cashier of the deli says he was traumatized – and that this isn’t his first experience getting robbed while on the clock. He says that he changed his shift from the nighttime to the daytime after the deli was robbed while he was working two months ago.
The suspect was last seen wearing grey shorts, a brown hoodie and a blue vest. He was also wearing black shoes with green soles.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the NYPD immediately.
