An NYPD sergeant from Babylon is back home after being shot in the line of duty on Thursday.
There was a sea of support for Christopher Leap as he left Bellevue hospital.
Officials say Leap was one of two sergeants shot in Manhattan while trying to arrest a man suspected of robbing a woman at gunpoint.
That is when the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun, shot the unidentified sergeant in the groin and grazed Leap’s leg.
City officials are praising their quick thinking and life-saving efforts.
Both sergeants are expected to be OK.
Police identified the suspect as 22-year-old Joshua Dorsett and took him into custody. Authorities say Dorsett is a known gang member and he was on probation at the time of the shooting.
