Hundreds of incoming NYU freshmen are helping their new community before they even take their first college class.
The freshman class of NYU's arts and science program is setting out to beautify the streets of East New York, improving nearly 2,000 street trees and beds.
More than 1,400 students participated in this two-day community service project as part of their freshman orientation.
Brian Aucoin, of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, says these efforts are part of their Million Trees NYC campaign, which aims to plant 1 million trees over the next decade.
