Officials advised beachgoers to keep safety in mind from rip currents as they head to Coney Island this Labor Day weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, the rip current risk is moderate.
The City Parks Department advises beachgoers to swim near a lifeguard. The department also said to always obey lifeguards' instructions.
It also advised beachgoers to be aware of the signs, like flag warning systems, pay attention to choppy waters and debris moving seaward or away from the beach.
For swimmers who are pulled away by rip currents, they should swim parallel to the shore to escape. Swimmers should stay in shallow waters and for those with more experience to swim in pairs.
Parents are also encouraged to keep a watchful eye on their children.
