City officials Thursday are assessing the damage and destruction of the tornado that wreaked havoc across Brooklyn.Meteorologists say it appears the tornado had wind speeds between 111 miles per hour and 135 miles per hour.One of the hardest-hit areas was Bay Ridge. The storm caused about 200 cars to be damaged and wrecked about 40 area businesses. Other areas with significant damage were Kensington and Sunset Park. The tornado also left numerous homes damaged and some parts of the borough without power. Some of those left homeless by the storm are currently in local shelters. The city's Office of Emergency Management has set up an assistance center at P.S. 314 at 330 59th Ave.Due to the storm, alternate side of the street parking has been suspended in Bay Ridge, Borough Park, Dyker Heights, Flatbush, Fort Hamilton, Kensington, Midwood, Sunset Park and Windsor Terrace.
