Officials prepare for a record-breaking day as Thanksgiving travel gets in full swing

It is expected to be one of the busiest Thanksgiving travel periods ever as the Transportation Security Administration predicts it will screen roughly 3 million airline passengers nationwide today.
Overall, TSA is projected to screen 18.3 million people between Tuesday, Nov. 26 to Monday, Dec. 2, a 6% increase from this same time last year.
The good news is things have been going relatively smoothly at New York City airports including JFK and LaGuardia.
An ongoing shortage of air traffic controllers at the Federal Aviation Administration could cause flight delays but officials said they are prepared.
