New York's Office of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are coming together to remind coastal communities of the life-threatening dangers that hurricanes bring.
As the fourth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy approaches, new high-water mark signs are being unveiled in Coney Island and elsewhere to raise public awareness about storm-surge risks.
Officials spoke Friday about how awareness and preparedness can reduce property damage and even save lives.
Emergency management officials want residents to remember the devastation of previous storms in order to better prepare for the storms of the future.
