A man has been charged with attempted arson after police found his mother's dismembered body inside their home in West Haven, officials said Friday.
Police said they conducted a welfare check at 28 Nashawena Ave. on March 24, requested by the victim's other son, who had not seen or heard from her in at least two weeks.
During the search, officers secured a warrant and discovered the remains of Tina Lloyd that were placed in at least 14 plastic bags.
Evidence of lighter fluid indicated an attempted arson at the home, authorities said.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition, police said DNA examination was required to identify the victim.
Investigators believe Lloyd's body had been decomposing at the home for approximately two months.
The victim's son, 27-year-old Theodore Lloyd was charged with attempted arson with an act to conceal criminal activity, according to police.
He was taken into custody in Hartford on Monday and turned over to West Haven police.
Officials said more charges are expected as forensic analysis continues.
Surveillance footage showed Theodore Lloyd leaving a Walmart with purchased items, police said.
Authorities said he acted alone.
