Police say one person has been charged in connection with the drug bust that led to a police officer being shot by friendly fire in Bushwick on Tuesday.
Oscar Vera is facing charges, including assaulting a police officer and criminal possession and sale of drugs.
Officials say Detective Jon Gladstone was inadvertently shot by a police sergeant as the two tried to arrest Vera and Geraldo Rodriguez at Troutman Street and Wilson Avenue during a so-called buy-and-bust investigation.
The officers shot Vera in the leg and wrist after he allegedly tried to speed away as Gladstone reached into the vehicle. Vera was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
Gladstone was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with a bullet wound in the shoulder. Officials say he is recovering, alert and in good spirits.
Both suspects have extensive criminal histories with multiple drug-related charges, according to police.
Police say a third person fled the scene and was at large until late Wednesday. Narcotics officers witnessed the three men conduct a suspected heroin deal, according to investigators.
News 12 is still awaiting word if two other men taken into custody will face charges.
