The New York City Parks Department has scaled down plans to build a comfort station at a Red Hook park after residents complained it was too expensive and too big.
The comfort station, which includes bathroom stalls and a ramp for wheelchair accessibility, was originally supposed to cost $2.4 million to build. Residents said the price to build it could be spent elsewhere on more important things.
The Parks Department then revised the design, placing the bathrooms on the corner of Coffey and Ferris streets. The comfort station will now also be smaller and cheaper to build. The new blueprint was unveiled Thursday night.
