A series of shootings in and around Long Branch has forced the postponement and cancellations of after-school activities.  

Police say three shootings took place Monday, a day when schools were not in session, in Long Branch and West Long Branch. They believe the shootings were not random.

The first shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. near Halberton Place and North Fifth Avenue in Long Branch. Police say numerous bullets hit a home. No one was injured. The second happened outside the QuickChek on Broadway in West Long Branch around 9:45 p.m. where a man was shot and driven to a hospital. The third took place on Long Branch Avenue. 

Police say the shooting outside the QuickChek was captured on video. Police say the three shootings are not random and that the people involved were specifically targeted. But as of now, no arrests have been made.

Because of the incidents, school leaders have now moved Friday night's homecoming game tentatively to Saturday morning. The game will be played without fans. All middle and high school athletic games scheduled to play at home have been moved to away games. Evening and weekend activities have been canceled, postponed or moved to a virtual platform. 

It’s the second time a homecoming game in Monmouth County has been postponed because of threats in the community -- last weekend's Asbury Park vs. Keansburg game was canceled.

A local high-ranking school official who wanted to remain anonymous told News 12 this is likely gang violence and that they are concerned for the safety of the community.
