A 70-year-old man was hit and killed by a car while crossing the street in Midwood Monday night, according to the NYPD.
Police have identified the victim as Dov Broyde, who lived just a few blocks away on Ocean Parkway.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. at Avenue I and East Fifth Street, just off Ocean Parkway. Investigators say Broyde was walking across the street when he was hit by a gray Smart car driving east.
Video from the scene shows a black shoe left in the middle of the street and the small Smart car with a cracked windshield parked nearby. Officers had the area blocked off for hours overnight as they looked into what happened.
Broyde was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, but police say he didn’t survive.
The driver of the car—a 74-year-old man—stayed at the scene. So far, no arrests have been made, and investigators haven’t said if speed played a role.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is still working the case.
