Police say they have a man in custody in connection to a slashing that left a Jewish man and his son injured.
Vinesh Marajh was arrested Sunday morning.
Police were called to 18th Avenue on reports that two men had been attacked around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
When they arrived, police say they found the 18-year-old slashed in the neck and stomach. His 45-year-old father was slashed in the arm and neck.
Investigators say the victims had an argument with a group of three unidentified men who then attacked them.
The victims were taken to the hospital where they were in serious, but stable condition.
Police have not yet called this a hate crime, but the Hate Crime Task Force is assisting in the investigation.
Former State Assemblyman Dov Hikind is calling for action saying a rise in crimes against the Jewish community has concerned him.
"I mean, what are we waiting for, a Jew to be murdered in the streets of New York? Is that when we wake up? Is that when we start doing things?" said Hikind.
Marajh is facing disorderly conduct and harassment charges.
Police are still searching for the other two suspects.
