The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office announced the indictment of 13 people Wednesday in connection with a car fraud scheme.
According to authorities, the suspects would remove undamaged air bags, dashboards and door panels from late-model luxury vehicles and replace them with damaged parts.
The alleged offenders would then tell police the cars were vandalized and file claims with their insurance companies to have the damaged parts replaced.
Authorities say the suspects have been charged with staging accidents, filing false claims, identity theft and fraud.
