A young mother has been arrested and faces multiple charges after police say she tried to poison her 4-year-old daughter.
The NYPD Child Abuse Squad arrested 23-year-old Tajahnae Brown early Friday morning from her home in Melrose. Investigators say that back in May, Brown tried to overdose her daughter with seizure medication and then repeatedly lied to hospital staff so they would administer more. The toxicology report confirmed that the girl was poisoned.
"I don't know her, that's a shame, any baby being abused by their parents is horrible," said Harold Williams, who lived in the same building as Brown. "You got to be cautious, people with problems should seek help, and get proper help so things like this won't happen."
Police tell News 12 that Brown faces charges of attempted murder, attempted manslaughter and multiple counts of assault. She's scheduled to be arraigned today.
