Police say officers shot and killed a knife-wielding woman after she stabbed an officer multiple times in both hands at around 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Authorities say three officers responded to criminal mischief and gas leak calls at 1359 Remsen Ave. The officers say they heard someone banging on doors inside the building and smelled gas outside before calling the fire department. Firefighters broke down the door of the basement apartment, where officers thought the source of the gas leak was. The cops went inside the apartment to see if anyone needed help.
Upon entering, police say a 48-year-old woman jumped out at them waving a 12-inch kitchen knife. Police say the woman stabbed one of the officers multiple times in his hands before the other two officers fired three or four shots, killing her.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim.
