Twelve Bronx residents were arraigned in Manhattan Wednesday after police busted a heroin and crack ring taking place in the Millbrook and Beekman housing complexes.
Earlier this week, police arrested 10 people and shut down a prostitution operation being conducted out of the Murphy Houses in Crotona. Authorities say 30 Ziploc bags of crack and two firearms were recovered from the scene.
Police began an investigation of the housing complexes this past May and discovered the prevalent sale of heroin and crack taking place. According to authorities, police recovered more than $4,000 worth of heroin, 360 crack vials and more than $23,000 in cash.
Officers who went undercover as part of the investigation purchased heroin, crack and firearms on more than 48 different occasions. In total, 29 people from the Bronx have been arrested and face charges ranging from prostitution to heroin and crack cocaine sales.
