Police say a man and two teenage girls were injured in an apparent drive-by in East New York early Sunday morning.
They say the three victims were sitting in a car between Linden Boulevard and Drew Street around 3:30 a.m. when an unknown vehicle pulled up next to them and began opening fire.
The 35-year-old victim, who was behind the wheel of the vehicle, was struck. He attempted to drive away from the scene, but he crashed into a nearby parked vehicle.
Authorities say the man was shot multiple times and the 16-year-old was shot in the back of her head. They are both in critical condition. The 17-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet and sustained lacerations to her face and is in stable condition.
Police say it appears that the shooting was targeted. No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing.
According to the NYPD, that the number of shooting victims citywide is up by 23% from last year.
Mayor Eric Adams announced that he will be rolling out a plan later this week aimed at combating gun violence around the city. He credited police for doing their job and removing guns off our streets but says the federal government needs to step up and do more.
