Police say the driver of a Brooklyn sanitation truck died Thursday afternoon after he was struck by his own truck and pinned between the truck and parked cars.
Police say the driver noticed his truck was rolling down Lexington Avenue, between Franklin and Classon avenues, after he had gotten out of the vehicle. According to police, the driver, who thought the truck was in park, was struck and pinned after he attempted to climb onto the truck and stop it.
More than a dozen cars were destroyed in the path of the garbage truck. Neighbors say the scene resembled a movie set of a car chase and that nearly all the cars in the truck?s path were moved or crushed.
The driver was rushed to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
