Police say a woman and a companion were sitting on a St. Mary's Park bench Tuesday afternoon when they were stabbed by an assailant, the woman fatally.

The couple was attacked at about 12:30 p.m. and later taken to Lincoln Hospital, where the 23-year-old woman was pronounced dead, police say. The 25-year-old man was stabbed in the arm and is in stable condition.

No arrests have been made in the attack.
