Police say an unidentified Sheepshead Bay woman tossed a dog down a trash chute.
A neighbor of the woman heard a dog crying as she went to throw out the garbage. That's when she says she saw a small dog in the trash compactor.
Police were called and the puppy was taken to a nearby vet. The dog had to be put down due to its injuries.
Neighbors say they are shocked by the incident.
Police cuffed the woman believed to be the dog's owner, but so far no charges have been filed.
