An arrest has been made in connection to the attempted rape of a 85-year-old woman in Bay Ridge.
Police say around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, an 85-year-old woman was doing laundry in the laundry room of a building near the corner of 94th Street and Marine Avenue when a man tried to rape her.
The police were called around 11:30 a.m. and began a massive search.
Police tell News 12 that 25-year-old Mario Pope of East Flatbush was picked up on Madison Avenue in Manhattan after detectives recognized him.
Councilmember Justin Brannan sent a tweet of the alleged suspect leaving what he says is the laundry room, and saying he was apprehended around 5 p.m. Thursday.
Police arrested Pope and charged him with attempted rape, burglary, sex abuse, forcible touching and unlawful imprisonment.
News 12 is told the 85-year-old was taken to the hospital where she was listed in stable condition.
