New Yorkers are heading to the polls today to cast their ballots in a number of statewide and local races.
There is a big focus on the gubernatorial race this year, with Gov. Andrew Cuomo widely expected to win a second term, according to the most recent polls. He has a more than 20-point lead over the Republican candidate, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino.
Astorino stopped in Bay Ridge Monday on his final day on the campaign trail. He was full of optimism, appearing alongside Sen. Marty Golden, who is up for re-election. Cuomo was also in the city, attending a rally in Times Square Monday after stopping in the Bronx over the weekend.
Aside from the local congressional races, the other major state elections include the race for attorney general and comptroller.
Alternate side rules are suspended for Election Day, and there will be no garbage or recycling pickup. Public schools are closed for students.
The polls are open throughout the city until 9 p.m. If you suspect any possible violations at your polling site, you can call the elections complaint hotline at (718) 254-7000.
