Power has been restored following a massive outage in East New York.
Thousands of residents in all 46 buildings at the Spring Creek Towers, more commonly known as Starrett City, were left in the dark for about two hours Friday morning.
There were also reports of people being trapped in elevators, but the fire chief says no one had to be rescued. The fire department, police officers and the Office of Emergency Management were all on scene checking on tenants with medical needs.
The residential complex, which has 5,800 apartment units, operates on its own power generating system.
The cause of the power failure remains under investigation.
