Prayer vigil supports mayor’s push for stronger legislation to reduce shootings across NYC

Many say they are hopeful that President Joe Biden’s visit this week with Mayor Eric Adams will become the catalyst that’s needed to get illegal guns out of the reach of criminals.

Members of the Taxi Drivers of New York City union joined women and men of the cloth Tuesday to denounce the recent surge in shootings across New York City. 
They held a prayer vigil and a moment of silence for recent victims of gun violence. 
Community members prayed for an end to the spike in gun violence. The group converged on the steps of the Bronx Supreme Courthouse in support of Mayor Eric Adams’ push for stronger legislation to help reduce shootings in the city. 
They’re calling on lawmakers to take action to stop the flow of illegal guns on the streets. 
Local clergy members were joined by dozens of livery cab drivers in an effort to push for safer streets. 
Adaljisa Payero is with Taxi Drivers of New York City. She says a number of livery drivers don’t report violence against them. 
She says many have become increasingly concerned about the recent spike in gun violence.
