More than a dozen children with blindness and other disabilities graduated Friday from the Helen Keller Children’s Learning Center.

One family says it’s a big accomplishment for their 4-year-old son Michael John, who is blind and mobility impaired.

“The staff is really great, they work hard with Michael to communicate very well, and it's very important to us,” said Lindy John.

The school provides specialized service for children who need specialized care.

One boy, Zachariah, is blind, cognitively delayed and unable to walk, making this day all the more special for his mom.

“Every day is a blessing to just have him, know that he still here and that everybody is trying to support him and move him on through the world,” says Zachariah’s mom Carrie Gheith.

This year the center celebrates its 125th year in Downtown Brooklyn.
