Representatives of Century 21 Department Stores are hoping to build a multi-level parking garage in Bay Ridge.
Congested roads and a lack of parking have created headaches for the people of Bay Ridge. Century 21 representatives said the parking garage would help the neighborhood's parking problems.
According to residents, drivers constantly double park cars near 86th street. Some believe the parking garage would help the cramped parking conditions.
In 2006, Century 21 converted a bowling alley into a parking lot which is able to hold 80 cars. The proposed new parking lot would hold more than 300 cars. The store said parking would be free to customers who spend $50 or more, however residents would have to pay a small fee.
The plan must be approved by the city Department of Planning and then the City Council.
