Stroud Playground is about to receive a $5 million facelift.
Local children helped the parks commissioner and other city officials break ground at the Prospect Heights park.
The community park is one of 60 selected to receive money from city funds for a major overhaul. Some of the new features will include an interactive spray shower, a swingset, a track and basketball courts.
Children from neighboring schools say they are thrilled to have a new place to play.
"This community has a gathering space to be happy, healthy and have fun," says Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver.
Construction on the playground is expected to be completed by spring 2019.
