The Borough Park community continues to memorialize Detective WenJian Liu, a decade after his assassination.
The latest honor is the renaming of P.S. 331.
Upon its opening this upcoming fall, the 'Detective Wenjian Liu School of Civics and Entrepreneurship will be the first school in Brooklyn to be named after an Asian-American.
His widow, Sanny Liu, says it is the honor of a lifetime.
"No words can express how I'm feeling right now", Liu said on the renaming.
In a neighborhood with a large Asian population, Councilwoman Susan Zhuang says its important for young Asian American children to see the name of an Asian-American hero on a school in their own community.
"Children will walk by this school and see the name of an Asian Amercian hero that established a cultural connection that validates their experiences and a place in our society," says Zhuang.
