Public elementary school starts program in effort to prioritize student mental health

May is National Mental Health Month and students at KIPP Freedom Elementary School are learning how to practice mindfulness through the school's Second Step program.
The program aims to equip students with essential tools for emotional regulation and resilience by teaching them meditation practices, problem-solving skills and more.
The school has implemented social-emotional learning sessions into its curriculum. The sessions teach students how to be able to regulate their emotions and be resilient when faced with difficulty.
