Local leaders in Brooklyn are pushing for an increase in the speed limit on Ocean Parkway.

The roadway's speed limit was reduced to 25 mph as part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's Vision Zero initiative.

City Council members David Greenfield and Mark Treyger are now pushing for the speed limit to be bumped back up to 30 mph, like it was before the mayor implemented the changes late last year.

Legislators say they were promised that major throughways such as the Ocean Parkway would not be affected by Vision Zero without community input first.

According to Greenfield and Treyger, the slowdown increases traffic and forces drivers onto surrounding residential streets, which is causing concern among the community. They claim that some traffic apps are already redirecting drivers off the parkway and onto local roads.

Those who are opposed to the changes to Ocean Parkway also say it is affecting the community's quality of life.

The speed limit on all local roads throughout the five boroughs is 25 mph.
