Hundreds of FDNY firefighters gathered for a plaque dedication to honor the life of firefighter Billy Moon II who died as the result of an injury during a training accident in 2022.
Moon was a 21-year veteran of the department. In December 2022, he suffered a serious head injury in a training accident at his firehouse. After the injury, his family decided to take him off life support and donate his organs. Moon’s organs saved the lives of five people, including two retired FDNY firefighters.
"Billy donating his lungs saved my life. I was probably within a week of two of passing on," said Retired Lieutenant Terrance Jordan.
Moon’s family says his legacy lives on through his two children, Brianne and Colin and his wife, Kristina.
