Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was among several
members of Congress who were arrested Tuesday during an abortion rights rally
outside the United States Supreme Court.
The congresswoman and others were protesting the court’s
decision to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision, which had stated the right to
have an abortion was protected under the Constitution.
Democrats in the House of Representatives passed
legislation on Friday to protect a person’s right to choose to have an
abortion.
Ocasio-Cortez has been outspoken about her opposition to
the Supreme Court’s decision. On June 24, she spoke on the House floor saying
that it undermines Americans’ right to privacy and makes women less safe.
